Kickin' Mermaids

   
      So, today Alice started her fall soccer team.  It is through the YMCA and her team is called the 'Little Mermaids'- ha!  Her little friend Katy's big sister Ashley is their coach so she was super excited!  She hasn't played in a year but seemed to have a great time!  Some of her best buds are on the team so it is a hoot!  She was very excited to put on all of her gear and head off to practice! I think she was most excited about her pony tail, sunglasses and new "hello kitty' water bottle!

     So after practice, she walked in the door, put her hand on her forehead and said, 'It was freakin hot out there....'  I was like, 'Alice!'

Seven months!

Well, well, well....here we are and you over the 'hump': over halfway to one years old!  This has been a crazy week and I totally forgot you turned 7 months today but sadly my cell phone reminded me! oy!

You have had a busy month! You are now eating puffs, cheerios and yogurt melts with your 6 teeth!  You have had your second cold but powered through! You enjoy eating tiny bits of people food which thrills alice as she gags every time she sees me feeding you baby food! ha!

Sleeping is definitely not your forte.  You did sleep through the night the past 2 nights (HALLELUJAH) so let's keep up the good work.  You just don't seem to need tons of sleep.....
Your naps are slowly improving.  Anything around an hour and a half and longer is a good nap for you!

You still LOVE your Daddy. When he walks in the room, everyone else is chopped liver!  You have your 'open house' at preschool tonight and start going three mornings a week after Labor Day.

You love to stick out your tongue....you kind of look like a frog trying to catch flies.

Your crawling has officially started in the last few weeks.  You can get to whatever you want to.   You especially love trash cans!

So, happy 7 month birthday pumpkin! ;-)

first day outtakes

Alice and I took a walk around the circle tonight and I was able to get some good details about her first day of kindergarten today:

me: so, you had a great day?
A: yes, it was so great. I love mrs fant and mrs gunter. they are so nice.
me: what did you have for snack?
A: I don't remember, that was a long time ago
me: why didn't you eat your yogurt or apple?
A: I didn't have enough time mom....our lunch was like 5 minutes
me:  so did you make any new friends?
A: yea, I talked to some but don't remember their names
me: did you play with anyone new?
A: yea, I ate lunch beside Virginia and a new girl
me: great! did you have a special today?
A: mom! we don't do that on the first day. we just learned about school.
me: well, thats good, there is a lot to learn on the first day!
A: yea, we had centers, and i went to only 3 of them.
me: which ones?
A:  i went to computer, writing and another one.
me: what else?
A: well, we went to the playground, and got on the morning announcements b/c we were the quietest        hall walkers in the school!
me: that is so fun alice! what else?
A:  oh yea, then we had to have rest time
me: really,  you had quiet time?
A: yes, they turned on music, turned off the lights and we put our heads down on our desks and it was not fun at all (my favorite)
josh: was that b/c you couldn't talk?
A: DAD!

there was more, it was cute and lovable!

...and they are off!

Today marked the first day of the 2012/13 school year!  This morning did not go according to my plan but we made it to school even early! Lucy woke up early with raging earache and I immediately presumed it was swimmers ear.  She was not her usual bubbly self and everything was a struggle; breakfast, getting dressed, hair, pictures, etc.  I had some numbing ear drops and gave her some ibuprofen and we were on our way to 2nd grade! Alice, on the other hand, could not wait for the day to begin! She had her cereal, got dressed, picked out her hair bow and was ready to go to Kindergarten!

We took our traditional 'back to school' pictures while poor Lucy smiled through the pain.  We got to school a little early and just barely got a parking spot! We chatted with some friends and made our way to Alice's class first. We were the first there so we snapped some pics and were out the door! She was all smiles! whew!

Lucy, however, was in tears and required a lot of hugs.  This is very unlike her but I think it was 75% ear pain and 25% jitters.  I hated leaving her like that! (this was at 8am) but I went to meet a friend for a bagel and by 8:30am, school had already called to pick up Lucy who was in the office in tears.  We headed straight to the doctor and after waiting 45min, we were reassured it was swimmers ear and got some antibiotic drops called in. She seemed to be a little better after some motrin from the doctor so I dropped her off at school and it was snack time! She said she wanted to 'power' through the rest of the day and that she did!

We got them off the bus a little while ago and everyone was ALL SMILES!  Lucy seemed better and Alice was so proud of herself for riding the bus on the very first day of Kindergarten! Despite the ear and a bus stop snafu, we had a great day! They both seem to like their teachers! Alice's only request is that she is able to buy her lunch tomorrow and doesn't have to sit with her older sister b/c she bothered her today!?!?!? Isn't it supposed to be the other way around that the older sibling doesn't want to sit with the younger one?!?! ha!

Alice is off to ballet and is sure to be thoroughly exhausted tonight......

(ps...you are probably wondering where baby EVelyn was during all of this chaos! Thank goodness my mother in law was here watching her! ;-)

movin' and groovin'

Evelyn has been scootin' around for a few weeks but she is officially crawling as of the last few days! watch out! she is particularly drawn to trash cans, electrical outlets, and other 'toxic' items! ha!

It is officially also now time for school to start! This summer has been so fun but the older two girls now need some stimulation that does not include only me and lil' Evelyn!  We have had a nasty summer cold pass through our house the past 10 days or so and I am glad it is gone! Evelyn and I seemed to get the 'brunt' of it so good riddance to that cold!

Evelyn has perfected sticking out her tongue so now every time you say hey to her, this is what you get! It's a cute little tongue! ;-0

Long and Lean

      Evelyn had her 6 month check up last week.  She is now in the 95th percentile for height....our pediatrician was even a little surprised at her growth.  She remains in the 75th percentile for height, which I expected.  Then of course, she had to get the dreaded immunizations but to my surprise she really didn't cry all that much.  I've seen her cry much harder when hungry or tired!
    I then left for an annual girls beach weekend and left Josh with all three girls. Evelyn had a cold, 2 teeth coming in which were giving her a lot of pain, and shot remnants.  He then got the cold while I was gone but was such a trooper and they had a great weekend.  Evelyn's night sleeping is still not the best but she performed 'well' for her Daddy in my absence. Let me be clear, he is her favorite. Not only do they look alike but when he walks in the room, she cranes her neck to see him, flashes a huge grin and reaches out for him. So much for me....chopped liver when Daddy is around.....

I had a much needed and wonderful weekend with dear friends and was glad to return to my girls, a clean house and my bed! ;-)
