Even though I do not know one single person in Newtown, my heart and mind has been in that town since Friday morning. I could not wait for my two to get home from school Friday afternoon just so I could see their smiles, hear their laughter and put my arms around them. I explained in a matter of words what had transpired earlier that day to them as they had a snack. It really hit home to me as Alice is a Kindergartener and at the time they thought it was a Kindergarten class. After I gently told them the story, Alice looked at me with her big brown eyes and said, "Why would anyone hurt a little kindergartener like me?". How do you answer that? As the weekend went on, the girls saw some of the news and asked a few questions. On Saturday morning it was Alice's turn on the Advent Calendar and she picked out the school house for that day and told me it was for 'the little kids who just went to heaven"......talk about break your heart! Then again, this morning on her turn- she picked out the bell to represent the bell that rings at school.....it has not left her mind like many Americans.....

Last night while in the bathtub.....Lucy started to ask some harder questions....like 'why would someone hurt little innocent children?' , 'why did he have so many guns?', 'why would he kill his mom?'.......and I did my best to answer those. She seemed ok when the conversation was over.
Kids are so resilient. NOT ONCE, did my kids seemed scared to go back to school today... If anything, they couldn't wait to see their teachers and friends.
Several posts on Facebook have 'spoken' to me:
